The current system puts many candidates in the hip pocket of Big Money.
With Preference Voting, candidates don't need to spend as much money to
win, because like district elections they need significantly less votes
to win (only 35,000 votes instead of 100,000). Candidates can target
their campaigns to certain neighborhoods or spread-out communities, and
don't have to run city-wide. Preference Voting will make Supervisors
accountable to the voters who elect them, not to big campaign
contributors.
