Summer 2007

Call for Volunteers

We hope you have been impressed with the successes that CfER has been having lately, as well as the larger electoral reform movement, and are as hopeful as we are about the continued momentum we are seeing on our issues.   We also hope you are finding your membership in CfER worthwhile and want to help make the most of this opportune time.

As you know, CfER is an all-volunteer organization and has no paid staff.  This has definite limitations.  CfER's leadership has a lot of great ideas for how to expand our local and state activities, but we are hard pressed to do so without more volunteers, especially ones who can help us build infrastructure and keep the trains running on time.

Being an all-volunteer organization has some advantages.  For one, we can (and do) live on a shoestring.  And our work in Sacramento and communities around the state is done with a level of commitment that you can't buy for money.  But making the trains run on time is not one of these advantages.

Please take a quick look at our officer list here: https://www.cfer.org/aboutus/officers.php.  A few crucial functions are missing from this list, including member services, media relations, and volunteer coordination.  And several of the folks listed there need help, specifically with development, outreach and publications.

Below are our current Help Wanted ads.  If you have any interest in any one of these, or know someone who does, please reply to me via email at  or via phone at 650-962-8412. It will be a great way to help advance the cause of electoral reform in California.

Help Wanted

Member Services Director. The Member Services Director's role is to service our existing base of members and provide a reliable ongoing internal process for the addition of new members. This includes ensuring that new members receive welcome packets and are added promptly to our databases, that renewal letters are mailed in a timely manner and repeated for members in arrears, and that general questions and administration having to do with our membership base are handled professionally.

Volunteer Coordinator. The Volunteer Coordinator's job is to work with organizational and project leaders to identify volunteer opportunities and to then try and find appropriate individuals to fill these open roles. In addition, the volunteer coordinator contacts members expressing interest in volunteering to learn what activities are of interest to them and what skills set they have to offer.

Media Relations Director. The Media Relations Director works to publicize the activities of the organization, as well as represent the organization to media inquiries. This role could be as simple as sending out periodic press releases to as involved as developing relationships with media people in targeted outlets.

Outreach Coordinator. The Outreach Coordinator is responsible for reaching out to other organizations to identify areas of common interest and to develop relationships with these organizations that further our mission. In addition, the Outreach Coordinator helps to generate educational opportunities, such as speaking engagements, that can broaden knowledge of our issues and our organization.

Development Director. The Development Director is responsible for fundraising for the organization, including both grassroots fundraising and donor development. He or she will be responsible for coordinating specific dedicated donation opportunities related to local campaigns, as well as building a long-term funding base for the organization.
